A Bed of Hope

Where will you sleep tonight? “A Bed of Hope” is Opening Doors’ year-long fundraising program that allows community members or groups to play a vital role in the shelter of women and children. Between the two facilities of Maria House and Teresa Shelter, there is a total of 54 beds each night. So, every year, Opening Doors offers 19,710 beds to shelter our residents.

Would you like to help provides beds and peace of mind for homeless women and children?

Many different types of groups have taken on this project, including churches, congregations, businesses, civic organizations, schools, colleges, families, and individuals.

  • Our inaugural group for “A Bed of Hope,” Holy Spirit Pastorate, raised almost $12,000 during two consecutive Lenten seasons, sponsoring over 1,200 “bed nights” for a homeless woman or child.
  • St. Columbkille’s Catholic School “adopted” Opening Doors for an entire school year! All of the students from kindergarten to 5th grade got involved in a variety of fundraising activities. Faculty, staff and parents participated as well.
  • The Dubuque Eagle’s Club “Eagle Eye on the Future” committee, lead by Michael Duehr, hosts an annual Burger Night in April for “A Bed of Hope.”
