From Crisis to Courage: Entering the Shelter
Tiffany first entered our shelter in August 2024, carrying the weight of significant challenges, including mental health struggles, substance use, domestic violence, and an unsafe living environment. As a result of these circumstances, her 11-year-old son, Norman, had been staying with family in Alabama for the past 15 months. However, that changed when Tiffany discovered Opening Doors.
Reuniting with Norman and Building a Foundation
Through our program, Tiffany was not only reunited with her son, but she also gained access to the resources and support necessary for her to focus on her well-being. Norman was enrolled in school and began receiving therapy services, while Tiffany took steps toward healing both physically and mentally. With the help of therapy, job readiness programs, parenting support, behavior interventions, and a safe place to call home, she started to envision a brighter future.
Healing, Growth, and Lasting Change
Tiffany has learned coping skills to help her maintain sobriety, the importance of fostering healthy relationships, and how to prioritize her well-being. These invaluable lessons have empowered her to secure an apartment, where she can continue to thrive.
As Tiffany shares in her own words:
“The day I walked into Opening Doors changed my life. I was scared at first, not knowing what was to come. But being at The Teresa Shelter was a life-changing experience. Not only was I able to get clean, but I was also able to bring my son home. The future looks brighter today than it ever has, and I thank the wonderful people at Opening Doors who continue to help and support us in our time of need.”
A Brighter Future Through Aftercare Support
Tiffany and Norman secured housing at the beginning of March with the help of the Opening Doors program and other community resources. They remain engaged in our aftercare program, where we continue to support them on their journey toward long-term stability.
