Last year’s Attitude of Gratitude Gala was a night to remember—filled with inspiration, community spirit, and an outpouring of generosity in support of women and children experiencing homelessness. Together, we raised critical funds to continue Opening Doors’ mission, while celebrating the countless stories of resilience that have shaped our 25 years of service.
Our shelter receives an average of 65 calls each month from women seeking safety and stability. Despite our efforts, we had 317 turn-away calls due to lack of space, highlighting the urgent need for our ‘Under One Roof’ campaign.
When Dena (63) came to Opening Doors in December 2024, she carried the weight of years spent in unstable living environments and the challenges of substance use. At first, she was unsure about shelter life and hesitant to share her story.
As the summer draws to a close, we’re reflecting on the joy, generosity, and community spirit that made these past few months so special at Opening Doors.
We’re shining the spotlight on two extraordinary individuals who have made a significant impact on the lives of our residents – Richard and Joyce Smith. Week after week, the Smiths have been working tirelessly to provide food for our residents and always bring a warm smile and comforting presence when making their deliveries.
We were overjoyed and grateful as the Kwik Stop team presented us with the February Kwik Care contribution along with our 50/50 raffle proceeds from our time with the Fighting Saints.
With over 300 attendees and many incredible minds present, we couldn’t have asked for a better Trivia Night to raise funds for Opening Doors! THANK YOU all for showing up, participating, and supporting our mission.
At Opening Doors, we are committed to nurturing the next generation of social service professionals through hands-on experience and meaningful engagement. This spring, we had the privilege of welcoming four dedicated interns from three colleges, each contributing their unique skills and passion to our programs.
Tiffany first entered our shelter in August 2024, carrying the weight of significant challenges, including mental health struggles, substance use, domestic violence, and an unsafe living environment. As a result of these circumstances, her 11-year-old son, Norman, had been staying with family in Alabama for the past 15 months. However, that changed when Tiffany discovered Opening Doors.
The event drew over 500 attendees, garnered exceptional feedback, achieved a record-breaking total for the live auction, cementing another milestone of a successful event.
