Sr. Helen Huewe
Hope & Healing Fund

The Sr. Helen Hope & Healing Endowment Fund was founded by Joe & Linda Chlapaty to honor Sr. Helen’s passion of empowering women by supporting their physical and spiritual health and wellness.
This endowment fund will honor Sr. Helen’s legacy in perpetuity.

Sr. Helen was a champion of the poor and underserved which led her to help establish Opening Doors. Her tireless work continues to impact our community.
Sr. Helen’s passion for helping women and children touched many, including Joe & Linda Chlapaty. Her death came as a shock, and inspired the Chlapatys to honor Sr. Helen and her legacy with an amazing gift of $100,000. The Sr. Helen Huewe Hope & Healing Endowment Fund will allow us to elevate our services to the women and children we serve. We invite you to learn more in this special publication.

Sr. Helen wrote a letter to Joe after learning of his philanthropy to the University of Dubuque and made a bold request that he consider helping Opening Doors. The letter sparked a friendship that continued for many years.
“I was shocked and saddened to learn of Sr. Helen’s passing. I thought I could have and should have done more when she was alive. Linda and I wanted to do something to recognize her efforts and hard work throughout the course of her life. We wanted to establish a fund in her name that will recognize in perpetuity the good work and good life Sr. Helen lived.”
