Opening Doors Expands Services with New Programs to Support Women and Children Experiencing Homelessness

Dubuque, IA – Opening Doors is excited to announce the launch of two new programs designed to further support women and children on their journey to independence: the Pathway to Employment Initiative and the Family Stability Program. These additions expand Opening Doors’ holistic approach to breaking the cycle of homelessness.

The Pathway to Employment Initiative will provide job readiness training, resume workshops, and direct connections to employers willing to hire women transitioning out of homelessness. Participants will receive career coaching, interview preparation, and assistance securing stable employment.

The Family Stability Program focuses on helping women with young children navigate childcare access, parenting resources, and family reunification efforts. Through targeted case management, the program ensures that families have the support needed to achieve long-term housing security.

“These programs address key challenges our residents face as they work toward independence,” said Carol Gephart, Executive Director of Opening Doors. “By focusing on employment and family stability, we’re not just providing shelter—we’re creating opportunities for sustainable success.”

The programs will officially launch on May 1, 2025, with enrollment now open for women currently residing at Teresa Shelter, Maria House, and Francis Apartments.
