On Saturday June 4, 2022, Michael Pennington took the stage so others can take shelter! He and his partner Jessica Kieffer danced to FOOTLOOSE at Dancing with the Stars – Dubuque Style. He raised $4,381 to support women and children who are experiencing homelessness!
Many thanks to everyone supported Michael!

Opening Doors dancing star Michael Pennington, aka “twinkle toes,” raised $4,381 for Opening Doors on June 4 at “Dancing with the Stars: Dubuque Style.” Michael currently works for Cottingham & Butler Insurance and has been working with Opening Doors since 2018. He has helped with other events to help raise money and awareness for Opening Doors on a much smaller scale. Michael chose Opening Doors as his nonprofit because he believes no one in Dubuque should be homeless.  He commented, “No mother should watch her child go hungry. I am leaving my comfort zone so someone else can have the most basic comforts. I believe in the mission, vision and values of Opening Doors; to empower women and children and break the cycle of homelessness by providing the necessary support to empower them to build a better life!”

Michael Pennington’s tux rental generously donated by Gordon’s Toggery!

TOTAL RAISED: $4,381

ABOUT OPENING DOORS

OPENING DOORS is a nonprofit organization in Dubuque, Iowa that helps women and children who are experiencing homelessness.  We provide goal setting and life skills training that enable them to achieve their full potential.  We offer a hand up in the world, not a handout.

Since 2000, Opening Doors has served thousands women and children through a continuum of services. Teresa Shelter offers emergency and extended stay programs. Maria House offers transitional housing for up to two years. Francis Apartments offers an opportunity for income-based affordable housing with support services; a combination that has proven to be effective at ending the cycle of homelessness.

Opening Doors offers much more than a place to sleep.  We provide the opportunity for women to claim their own power and become self-sufficient.
