Opening Doors' humble beginnings started with compassion for a homeless woman who was found on a park bench in Jackson Park with her dog. The Dubuque Humane Society took the dog, but there was no place for the woman to go. Now over 12 years later, Opening Doors operates two programs for homeless women, alone or with children - Maria House and Teresa Shelter. We are so proud of the more than 2,000 women and children that have gone through our doorways and into a future filled with the promise of a brighter tomorrow.
